Minnkota Maxium Discontinued ???

BillyBoy23

Question

I ordered a trolling motor from Cabela's and they ordered the wrong one. I made a run up there yesterday to swap it out with the correct one and was informed that Minnkota is discontinuing the Maxium motor. Has anyone heard if this it true? I don't know if I believe the guy or if he was just saying that to cover his mistake.

I ended up having to order the last Maxium 80lb UV2 from the WI store and ship it to my house.

There did give me 10% off the purchase of the new motor for all the driving I had to do which was great customer service. They also paid for the shipping.

I can't comment on the 2010 lineup. When I bought my fortrex this spring, I was told the maxxum pro with the lift-assist and the universal sonar was being discontinued. The move was to push more people into the Fortrex, which is the new "pro-model". The regular maxxum without the lift-assist and and universal sonar was in the lineup for 2009. I would think that with the maxxum pro model being discontinued, that there would be some really good prices on them.

I found that line to have a lot less power than their Riptide series for saltwater. Riptides have better electronics and gears in them so they last longer. Funny though that Cabela's doesn't sell that line and Bsspro does.

Maxxum transom was replaced with Traxxis.

Maxxum Pro bowmount was replaced with Fortrex. Regular Maxxum bowmount motors are still current.

Electronics are the same saltwater vs freshwater (on comparable models). They are totally potted for saltwater protection. The Riptide (saltwater) also used glue-filled heat shrink over all the connections.
