Ice Sleeves???

I wanted more info from you experienced people on using Ice sleeves in a perm. Keep in mind that I'm on the newer end of ice fishing. I am noticing that all of the sleeves are 12 inches wide. How does this work if my auger is 8"?

I do not own sleeves myself, but i have been in several houses that do. They are very nice nice, there are a couple of inches on either side of the hole, but there is no problem. It leaves space to get your hands down by the hole to land fish.

Yea your not trying to make the hole longer or put the sleeve down the hole but so the sleeve is resting on top of the ice to help stop drafts from freezing hole shut. What really helps is when you auger your hole push the sleeve in to the slush created by the auger, then scoop out the remaining slush, at the end of the day an you leave just give the sleeve a tap an pull it up off the ice a few inches so it dont freeze in. Pushing the sleeve into the mound of slush helps make a good seal and keeps hole open easier. I do this with ten inch pvc through my camper floor an it works great cause it hard to get heat down two feet of hole to the ice. Boar
