Splicing 220?

It would not be a code violation if you spliced the wire in a j-box and ran more wire to your outlet. For aesthetic purposes it would be best to just run new wire from panel to outlet depending on length it wouldn't be to much money.

220 - 2 hots 1 neutral. Black to Black/ Red to Red/ White to White. Put in a jbox with appropriate wire nuts and your good.

It depends.

I have no problem with a J box but all it takes for me is one determining factor to run new wire. Without knowing what you have I can't say one way or the other. Your adding 8' what would be the length if you just ran new wire? How old and what type wire is there now?

What size is it. Any other J boxes? I could go on but you might just say it is best to run new wire of the proper size and run correctly and spend the extra bucks knowing the job is done right.

I'll tell you what I have my homes range wired with. 50 amp 3 prong receptacle, 6-3 copper wire on a 40 amp breaker. I don't know if codes have changed since I wired my home. If your going to do this yourself at lest get a book. You can get "Wiring Simplified" at your home center.

What to do with that old wire? A couple boats are using my old stuff for the bow mount electric motors.
