Tone mapping/HDR software

Recommended Posts

What software do you guys use for blending multiple exposures? Ive tried in CS4 and have been VERY un-impressed with the results. The images dont seem to align well and the results tend to look very unnatural - like a painting in most cases.

I downloaded the trial of Photomatix and I LOVE the degree of control you have with this software. You can make so many adjustments to go from the surreal to the ultra-realistic.

I had two images of 5 exposures each that I planned to merge into a pano and the results were fantastic. I was shooting a scenic overlook with the setting sun in the background and not blow any highlights, except for a little bit in the sun itself. Colors were great and the alignment was perfect.

Is there anything better out there? Anyone have any opinions on Photomatix?

There are a number of methods using CS versions of Photoshop, some more complicated than others, but many pros who do HDR use Photoshop techniques to accomplish it. I'd post links to two effective methods I use, but of course I won't because they are to commercial Web sites from non HSO/FM sponsors.

The Google is your friend in this case. wink
