Octobrrr fishing report

Recommended Posts

Heading up tomorrow for three days of fishing. Anyone have a report. Have the 'Eyes moved in to Fall locations? Has the Musky trolling bite started at all? I know the cold front that we'll be fishing in all weekend will likely change the bite but it would be nice to know what they've been doing for the last week. Thanks.

Went up Thursday night, back today. Hunted, didn't fish. 4 inches of snow and 35 mph winds on Saturday. Nice day for ducks!

Water temp is down to 42 (was 70 just two weeks ago!) Seems there is no nice weather in sight.

Heading back up Wednesday night for 4 days of hunting.

We were up Oct. 2-11. Caught a ton of walleye in the fall spots and good average size. Got my brother his first muskie, trolling a 10" Jake, and while he was reeling it in and my wife was fast reeling in her bait to get it out of the way another muskie slammed it. They were both fighting a muskie at the same time. Got my bother's 41" in the net and my wife's 47" followed about three minutes later. 88" of muskie in the net at the same time.

Eastwind - sorry I missed you Sat. at our rendezvous spot. I was ready, willing and able. Where were you? smile

Fished the walleye tournament out of Morson on the weekend. saturday was cancelled do to the high winds. 14 teams fished Sunday you were allowed to weigh in 4 fish two over 18 inches and two under. My son and I weigh in two 17inchers and two 20inchers 9.48 pounds for 6th place. The winning weight was 15 pounds Jason and oliver Gibbons.

rockpt,

The only thing my group and I were "Ready willing and able" to do on Saturday was to stay in the cabin and watch the 30 MPH winds, with higher gusts, and blowing snow from inside. I hailed you on the radio on Sunday and Monday but got no reply. Don't you usually stay through Tuesday on your October trip?

Yeah, Saturday was brutal. I was half expecting a radio call from you for a meet...last year wasn't too nice either when we met but at least it wasn't snowing. We came in a week earlier this year (and glad we did). That's why we overlapped only one one day.

Went up the 14th, back the 18th.. didn't fish, only hunted.. good duck weather... lots of fishing boats moving up and down 621 Road but I never actually saw many on the water... water temp is 42-46 degrees and dropping fast... heading back up this week for what may be the last hunt for the season.. gasp, where has October gone!

Fished Thursday to Sunday. Crappie and perch fishing were decent up near Thompson and walleye fishing was good in most narrow areas. Lots of 12-16" fish, a fair amount low 20's, biggest 25" caught on a wind-blown point. Gulp and Mylies minnows on jigs worked the best. Thanks to Justin at Mylies for some great information and really good minnows.

Back up in ... 6 months or so.

Well we wrapped up duck camp 2009 on Sunday with a whimper, only shot 1 bluebill, but we could only hunt until 9... had a decent 5 day hunt mostly b-bills and redheads... even fished for a couple hours and got 1 20-inch walleye and my buddy lost a huge fish of some sort, likely a pike or musky... nearly bent the rod in half before the line snapped about 30 seconds into the fight....

One other camp had a decent year but my dog ended up with only 69 retrieves over 18 days this year, exactly half of last year... so it goes, every season is different... pray for rice next year!... probably won't get back up again, maybe the first weekend in November... heading to sodak for pheasants this week..

take care all
