Insulated Dog Box for Pick-up

I could have a new baby on the way soon which means the dogs will need to be out of the back seat of my crew cab during travel.

Does anyone have recommendations for an insulated dog box that will fit underneath a topper? Im also interested in plans for a homemade one.

If you've already got a topper, why not pick up a few used vari-kennels on the cheap and buy those insulated covers for them?

Yep, this works well for my two dogs.

I just use the vari-kennels and then put old sleeping bags/blankets over them. Allow about 4" of the bottom of the front door to not be covered. After a below zero day of pheasant hunting, the dogs come out "steaming" when we get home.

I use the kennel/crate and the insulated cover. Works great. Zip up the windows and he stays plenty warm. I don't have a topper on the back of my truck either.

I have a Mud River kennal cover, mutt stays plenty warm for the ride to millacs every weekend. around 100 bucks. very good investment, comes with zippered front and vent covers, storage pockets and insulated, D rinds for tying it down, etc.

Im liking this idea better and better. I started off thinking about getting rid of my pick-up (which I love) and getting an SUV (uhhg...) then came to the idea of a topper and permenant insulated kennels, now Im down to the topper a sleeping bag and vari-kennels.

I had no idea the goof troop (my pack of 2) would stay warm on a trip out to ND when it is less than 0 without windchill in a vari-kennel.
