Had a Barred Owl in my Backyard Last Night

Sunday Night I had a Barred Owl in a Maple Tree in my backyard right at dusk.

I heard it calling, went out on the deck and called to it, the response was incredibly loud.

Was able to locate it with a spot light, I called back and forth with it for almost 10 minutes until it left the tree and swooped low over my yard.

It was a really neat experience.

I love the call of the barred owl. We hear them often at night at the family cabin near Bemidji, and always stop what we're doing to listen for awhile.

The mating call of the Barred Owl sounds like a cat being skinned alive. It is quite creepy.
