Screen over interior crawl space openings?

We're first time homeowners and loving every second of it. I have noticed quite a few more spiders and bugs in general than any house I've ever lived in before. There were two additions added to the house about five years after initial construction. Each of these additions has a dirt crawl space that is open to our basement.

I assume that I'd have no issues putting screens over these openings, right? Maybe that will control some of the buggers getting into our house but still keep warm air circulating into the crawl space.

Is the skirt insulated and do you close off the exterior vents in winter.?

Luckily we haven't had any mice yet, just the usual spiders, centipedes, and rolly pollys.

You know I haven't looked specifically for them, but I don't think that there are any exterior vents in the concrete foundation walls.
