Scott M
Going to be buying a push pole. I snapped mine after 4-5 years...used a little too much muscle last year getting it through about 3 inches of water and a couple feet of muck.Anyways, I have the duck bill still. I was just wondering what everyone prefers...the telescoping button-snap-in conduit style for thirty bucks, or the 10 foot closet rod trimmed down to fit the duck bill? Pros and cons are the telescoping one will travel better but will sink if dropped and is more expensive. Vice versa for the wooden push pole. What does everyone else like and use and which way should I go? I love overthinking decisions like these to pass the time until October 3... Gordie
da-chise I have had both and they both have their pro's and cons the aluminum extenion style is great cause you can buy differnt ends for like decoy retriver and the duck bill and they do come in handy but I have bent and broke 2 of these style my 18ft boat loaded with 4 fat guys and 8-10 dozen decoys is probally why they were done in and I still try to always have atleast one of the wood closet rod in the boat not only for back up pole but also for a anchor pin shove it down in the mud and tie the boat off to it and this yeare some of the spoys I'll be at I think I'll need two of the poles. so I hopethat I helped with your decision because I know that I have to make a same simalar decission as you now I'm confused also
RumRiverRat
If you are going to go with the 10 foot closet rod option, I can machine an adapter/connector for you. Have done this in the past and it is much more secure that trimming down the road to fit the duckbill end.
Crusty old Swede
12' closet rod, just make sure you look at the grain - get one where the grain runs the length of the rod without crossing side to side. If the grain crosses from side to side you'll have two 6' poles real soon.
cutter08
The only reason i like the aluminum ones is because they collapse and save on space. And we can always use more space. Like you said the downfall is that if it slips out of your hands it silks. But if you need to use a push pole and it does slip out of your hands chances are you will be in shallow enough water you can retrieve it.That's just my thoughts
Superduty
I use an aluminum telescoping flag pole. Hands down the best push pole I've ever used in 25 plus years of duck hunting. It is 8 feet long collapsed and 16 feet extended. Easy to mount a duck bill on the end also.
