Bigspence,

To answer your question, yes I have!

I haven't been on Rice in a LONG time.
However, I did find some browns and a occasional rainbow. "Sarge" and I explored that years back. In the upper end near highway 52, we managed sunfish!

The SOUth Branch of the Root by the old Barn Resort can give up large browns!

Majority of my time here, was up stream from the resort. SOme very nice runs and holes!

In fact, I think the stretch from the Old barn up to Preston has to be one of the better stretches of the S.B. You do have to deal with the bike path hovering close to the stream in spots, but it makes for easy travel when itch-weed, nettles and bugs are at a maximum!

Have fun!
Keep the rods bendin'!!

Bigspence,

I recommend the Old Barn into Lanesboro on the South Branch. Did the trip the first time last weekend and I was blessed with good luck and perhaps some skill. The wife and I caught 1/2 dozen rainbows. The first few were 6-8" and I was happy catching these. Fished int he middle of the riffles/runs and landed a 12" and a 14." I've caught 99% browns this summer, but like I said, this was my lucky day.

All fish were released...Just to beautiful to keep. Tight lines...
