Replacement Hook Question

Recommended Posts

What are your recommendations for replacement hooks for the majority of situations (I know it depends on size of lure, etc) - short shank, long shank, 5/0, 6/0, curved hooks, straight....dang there are too many options! crygrin How about split rings, what size to get for the hooks listed above?

After 3 days of basically nonstop research (hope I don't get fired! haha), I'm just about set up for my official trip out next week trying this on my own!

Thanks!

Eagle Claw 774 5/0 for most every bait that they'll work on for me. You can get them at Thornes. I'll go with a 7/0 or 8/0 Mustad when I need something bigger. If I'm really losing fish on a bait I'll go with the Gami's, but at $1.25/each they are used sparingly.

I made the mistake of getting 3/0 mustad trebles. It sucks because its like a box of 25 that cost me $15-$20. Top it off they are a long shank thin wire hook. They looked so big in the store, took them home an compared them to my other baits. No dice. I will probably use them for trolling, loose drag, rod flex. It would take a big fish to bend them out.

You can get all size /0 in both long and short shank, thin or thik.

Just make sure you get a short shank thick wire not a long shank thin wire.
