Big Dead Flat

I saw this guy floating belly up on the 'sippi and thought it was a goose. I snagged it with a spoon and drug it in to check it for a tag. It was pretty fresh, smelled more like a catfish than rotting meat.

It's too bad it's dead, it was a nice fish. Even worse, that was the only catfish I saw that night.

Ya more and likely a fish that some [PoorWordUsage] stomach hooked and wasn't able to get their hook out so they just ripped it out instead of taking a 30cent lose.

Without doing an autopsy... the fish could have died from anything. It is spawn time, maybe it beat itself up too much. Maybe it was old age and time to go. Or maybe it was careless handling on the part of a fisherman. There's always going to be natural mortality and it'll be these big older girls kicking the bucket.

It's difficult to see from all the sand on it from dragging it out of the water, but it didn't look it had any spawning scars. That said, Hanson is 100% right who knows what that fish died from.

If anybody wants to do an autopsy on that guy, let me know and I'll give you GPS coords, should be pretty ripe by now
