9 y/o female springer

We have had her for years and she is developing a bad condition. She has been fixed for years, but her "female" parts are spotting, damp and leaving a very distinct odor (read "she smells REALLY bad!"). Any clue what this is, or how to fix? She is acting very normal, and this has happened before with just the smell very occasionally, just the spotting is new.

Thanks, jeff

Update, a trip to the vet revealed an infected anal gland. He kind of popped it like a zit and injected some antibiotics. Along with antibiotic pills, she is doing great!
