hummingbird question

my dad recently bought a hummingbird depth finder i believe it was a 590c. he lives an two hours away from me and cant get the maps on his navionics chip to show up. i dont know if its possible but shouldnt he be able to see the lakes that are available? He thinks that maybe its auto when the gps connects to satelites but in his garage he isnt getting a signal. if anyone knows how to help me help him i would appreciate it. What buttons does he need to push or is something wrong with the unit? thankyou ahead of time.

make sure the chip is in correctly... and then double check this... i had this problem and it turned out the chip wasnt placed in correctly. . this was with a h20c tho, a lil different

gps has to get postion or chip won't show mine won't work in garage either. will work fine when it locks in a postion
