Tilt/Trim Gauge

Bought an 02 Alumacraft Trophy with 02 115hp Yamaha. The tilt/trim gauge will barely move off of up when I get the motor as far down as I can. If I understand right the gauge should move all the way over to down when the motor is all the way down. Any ideas what might be wrong or where I could look? Thanks.

Is the needle moving at all? It sounds as though the sending unit is out of adjustment or malfunctioning.

Make sure that the ring (item 1) is still rotating when you tip your motor up, and make sure that the wires aren't pinched / broken.

The needle starts moving a little toward down when the motor is completely down.

It might just need to be adjusted. Take a look at the pic above and play with it a bit. You should be able to figure it out if it's just an adjustment - loosen the screw on the collar and rotate the collar.
