mounting foot control?

I installed my new 24 volt MK trolling motor. It was suggested by the sales associate that I should mount the foot control. I don't have a footwell, so I would have to mount it on the deck. Is it necessary (or personal preference)because motor is cable steered?

I think it is personal preferance when there is not a "well". I attached mine, because I liked the idea of it being in one place. I know others who leave it loose. Just another way to set things up. Try it out loose first, if you find yourself keeping it in one spot, attach it, if you like being able to move it around, then leave it loose.
