mozy
Anyone know why they even bother painting the top of the lure? I'm fairly new to taking fishing "seriously", but this is something I've always wondered. Does it actually make a difference to the fish, or is it just to make the overall package more appealing to the fisherman?
Craigums
Because lure companies need to product lures that catch fish and fisherman.
gspman
To catch fishermen. One thing I do with scrum frogs is buy the ones with colors on top that are easiest for me to see in the slop, pads, etc... Then I take a marker to the bottom and color it black. That way the bass has a good silhouette against the sky and I can see the thing in the junk.

Saint Paul Dan
Its funny because I was just thinking about this the other day. I tend to agree with the previous comments. With that said, walk the dog stylye baits for example are used in open water situtions for the most part. Fish get a better look at them. A bait with a black back may actually be visable to fish from side angles. I have a few zara spooks that are all white and some with a white belly and black back. I have thrown both on the same day with different results. Could have been a another factor, but it sure seemed to make a difference.
