I can't imagine why anyone would be against an earlier opener. If people start take chances they shouldn't be, it's certainly not the DNR's or anyone else's fault but their own.

They have been spearing on parts of Kabetogama for almost a week now with 5-6" of good ice, though bigger parts of the lake are still open. Us northern guys think this is great.

If there's no ice by Dec. 1, what can we do? The same thing we'd do if there's no ice on Nov. 15....WAIT. But that doesn't mean that there's never going to be ice that early.
