Best Rod for the situation

3 posts in this topic

I'm afraid there's a different answer for each of the species/techniques you mentioned. Also, there's individual differences in preferences for each situation so that even two professionals can't agree a good portion of the time.

However, I can give you a good suggestion- give my dad an e-mail or call. He makes custom-made rods and they are top notch. They will be of equal or better quality than you can find in a store and will almost always cost less- He doesn't make 100% profit like the big name rod makers do. I have yet to hear a bad word said about any of the rods he makes.
Phone number is (218) 891-4415
e-mail- rodsbyengel@netscape.net
Give him a hollar- you'll end up spending less money, having a better quality product, and having things like your name and a decal with the species of fish you like (among many other things) on your personalized rod.
Good luck,

So what is everyone's opinions on what rod ( length and action) is best under each situation:

Walleye
Jigging
Trolling/drifting
cranks
slip bobber

Panfish
Jigging
Trolling/drifting
slip bobber

Large/Smallmouth Bass
Worms
Spinner baits/Buzz Baits

Northern/Muskie

Catfish
Channel
Flathead

Thanks in advance, I plan on making a trip to purchase a bunch of rods, so your advice will be helpful.

Nobody has any opinions on what type of rod is best suited for each of the above situations? I realize that it might be a different rod for each situation, and I expect this,..I want to see what every one thinks,..take some time and give your opinions on the subject.

    • Bernie has not a lick of common sense. He appeals mainly to those fuzzy-brained dreamers and of course that includes many of today's youth,   who despite having great school systems, cannot learn much more than how to operate a cell-phone. A thoughtful politician can dream when he's having a snort or sitting in a duck blind or golfing but when the tires hit the road he's gotta function within some realistic parameters.  Bernie can't do that. Nothing personal Bernie, but it's time to go home and sit down-the election is over and nobody will be interested in you next time.
    • Still best smoked, as they are an oily fish, too.
    • I am having the same issue with mine. I believe it's a gen 2 that's 2 years old but only been out 3 times now. Took it out last weekend for the first time this year and the hose was stiff and the fittings leaked. I contacted jiffy and they said it needed to go to a service center to be repaired. I called the service center and they would have to order the part anyway. I've tried finding the hose around town but everywhere is sold out. That's definitely going to put a damper on the nice weekend coming up. I'm really kicking myself for going with the propane and not an Ion. This auger was my first experience with jiffy after having and Eskimo and strikemaster. My strikemaster was the 3 blade that had some issues with bending the blades. I called them to find out if there was a replacement that I could buy and they ended up swapping it for free and this was after having it for 6-8 years. I'm very disappointed in the service from jiffy on a 2 year old auger with defective parts.
    • For me Tullies have always been rather strong flavored. Always needed a lot of smoke to cover that up.
    • Looking forward to the results of your experiment.
    • And now today is Wednesday.  So There.
    • a quick blurry shot and off they went. still trying to get them together in a good shot. maybe some day.
    • I posted that several days ago, although if you know what interest rates will be doing over the next several years you have better ways to spend your time than posting here.    You would no longer have to work for a living for sure.     To refresh your memory, the 9.1 trillion that you and Rand Paul are so upset about would not increase the debt to GDP ratio, assuming a 5% growth in Nominal GDP, which would be 3% growth and 2% inflation.      Do you have a figure for acceptable level of Debt to GDP?
