Line Twisting

7 posts in this topic

Hi I'm new to the site. Got a question for any one out there with information.

Is there a good line for vertical jigging that will not twist. I am currently using Berkley Trilene XL #6. It always twists up during the day and I end up throwing about 50 ft of line away per day. Is there a good line out there that will not do this?

Thanks LL

Welcome!! wink.gif

I believe line twist all comes from how you spool your line up on your reel. If you do it incorrectly it will twist on you. We have used Berkley XL,XT, and Tournament Strength and if we don't pay attention to how it's spooling up it will twist on us no matter how we're fishing with it. As long as we spool it up according to the directions we never have a problem. Good Luck!

That should be good line I use Berkley cold weather and love it.
Two questions is it twisting right away?
(solution flip spool over)
or do you us a swivel on your jig which will also twist it if you are pounding alot
(solution tie direct)
hope this helps if not you will have to turn to the real experts

the guys are right. first you have to determine if the twist are coming from putting it on backwards, or from your lure. jigs, jigging lures of many types will twist as you work them. a swivel can sometimes help. or may make it worse. one neat trick i read about in my last bassmasters mag. on jigging spoons was; that they will twist your line. after a while, just lower your lure to the depth you are fishing and lay the rod down. the line will start untwisting it self and in doing so it spins the lure. gives the fish a different look and all you have to do is watch. in the summer i usually let the line out behind the boat every once in a while to uload the line. . hope this helps ! del

Putting it on backwards is the main issue...

The directions say "If the twist sets in flip the spool over and continue to fill".

Well, easier said is to open your bail after about 12 turns of the reel, and if it comes off like a slinky, flip the spool over.

Summertime is easy to fix line while in the boat. While moving at idle I let a bunch of line out and drag it in the water for about 50 yards and then reel in. Comes off the spool like a dream after that.

If you fish alot of Bluegills your line will twist up on you alot quicker...Bluegills have a "swirling" tendancy in their battle.

If you want to have some real fun with line problems, twisting, mother nature knots, and "birds nests" give Stren a try. grin.gif

    • Trump got the information from Nunes. Nunes heads the House intel committee, but Nunes also was a member of Trump's transition team. Nunes then fed information to Trump (information that apparently nobody else on the intelligence committee has) about incidental observation of Trump and his transition team (a team that includes Nunes himself).
    • A better question would be are you right?  Even the articles you link to don't really support your "most likely" assertions so you have to resort to everything is a lie as evidence, like Donald's twitter, and anyone that doesn't believe your alternative facts is an Obama luvin' librul.
    • What projects have you worked on? Big or small lets see um. Anything, guns, boats, cars, Decoys.    I had fun reworking a few old Harley Golf carts. Didn't have any digital before shots to post. The carts I got were in very bad shape. Had to do a lot of fiberglass body work on them and some mechanical work to get them running. Just used boat seats as I didn't want to throw a bunch of cash at reworking the old seats and one cart had no seats at all when I got it. I took all the big chrome front bumper and bag bars off and glassed over the holes. Everyone had cracks in the front nose cones and rear ends. Not perfect but fun. Top picture is one of the nicer ones I started reworking.
    • Do you have any thoughts about what state you're heading to for this?  CO is draw only but there are lots of decent options available with 0 points. MT had leftover tags which is good because you missed the deadline already. WY has options you could draw. ND has passed. NM passed. UT not a good option with no points I think. ID may have some options but not certain. SD and NE may have some good options but I've never hunted either.   That's some basic info on states. Once you pick a state and get a tag it's really not complicated for the most part. Get elevated, glass up a muley, bed him, sneak in him without being smelled it seen, shoot him!   My son and I just found out we drew ND muley tags this year so we're pumped about that!

    • Missed the game but I guess I am glad I did. 9 games to go, still time to right the ship but at this pace the blues are going to pass us up.
    • Waiting for the new H'birds I ordered.  Hope it shows soon.  I be using the LCX as long as I have to.  del,  yes it is 10 inch screen
