I just bought a lowrance 522 wondering why one would want to hook this to the computer and how do you. is that the e-net

You don't connect the unit to your computer. You can use the SD card to transfer data back and forth with your computer.

The ethernet port is for certain lowrance accessories and add-ons, some work with the LMS generation units, more of them work with the new HDS units. Examples are the broadband sounder, sonar sharing, sattelite radar weather, and side scanning.
