Length of Trolling motor shaft

If I am going to get a transom trolling motor, and I have an average sized 14 ft lund...is there any advantage/disadvantage to getting a 42" shaft over the 36" shaft (minn kota endura)?

The only disadvantage would be 6 more inches of shaft in the boat when transporting the motor. You should think about where the motor will be when stowed and see if the extra 6 inches would get in your way when running, fishing, trailering, etc. It doesn't sound like that much more but it can make a difference.

I know you mentioned the Endura, but have you considered the new Traxxis for this year? It has some nice features the Endura doesn't have, the most important being the variable speed and the digital maximizer instead of just 5 speeds. The Traxxis has a $50 rebate right now, so there's not that much of a price difference between the two models.

Yes I did look at the Traxxis...but I just don't think $300ish is in the cards financially.
