Mayfly
Heres the problem....Today i'm taking Luci for a walk in the middle of a field. 200 yds away there is a women walking her Yellow Lab..Luci takes off after them..I attempt to call her, no luck....She just won't come. I have to walk almost all the way to her until she'll come back to me...She just started doing this. How do I correct it? I can't stand this. So frustrating!! Wild Willie
Keep working with her on the come command. She needs to understand how really important it is to you. Sit, stay and come! Sit, stay and come! Sit, stay and come! My pup is 10 months old now and he does not obey the come like he did when he was six months old. He is older and wiser and a lilttle more independent now than he was four months ago Especially when we are in the field and he starts to get birdy. More my fault then his. I tend to use it over and over and over again until he knows he can get away without obeying. I now only use the “hup” or check/reposition command and the “whoa” command when he starts ranging too far in front of me. I try only to use the come command when I want him directly under foot. Only give any command once and never give a command you can't reinforce. Also make sure she on a check cord or leash when you are just going for walks or training sessions that do not require a lot of room. That way if another animal gets her attention and she starts to make a mad dash you can give her the right command and reinforce it immediately with a nice littl tug. I'm not a professional trainer but maybe the things I have suggested will help.
spinach
Tri-Tronics training collar or similar. If you don't correct this now it will only get worse. See you on the 18th.....
BDR
Mayfly- your dog is just a pup right? I think that is very normal and I don't think it's that big of a problem.I totally agree with the advise from Wild Willie. Checkcord, Yard work, basic obidience and the pup UNDERSTANDING commands are key before you even consider electronics.I am pro E-collar as long as it is used as reinforcement of commands the dog knows and chooses to ignore. I do use the collar for a couple other situation but thats for another topic.------------------I'd rather be skunked than follow the crowd!Brian Rogers
setterguy
When you finally get to her, take her by the collar, calmly walk her back to the truck, put her in and continue your walk. I would guess that after two or three times of her watching you enjoy a walk she will want to join you. You could use a collar, but I think it is very important that you make sure the dog knows what is expected of it before any negative reinforcement is used. E- collars can be a very useful training tool but should never become a short cut in training. I'll bet that your dog will learn to enjoy her runs more than socializing with other people/dogs. Good Luck.

simcox282
I have the same problem with my choc. lab. The difference is that she does not stop at running up to them she will engage them ie snarling, posturing, and other behavior. With some dogs she has no problem with but with others she seems to have a huge problem with them. I have done the put her in the truck or take her home and use an e-collar. lately it seems to be getting somewhat better but not by much. It really took off last year when a schnazer? bite her in the ear. When we are in the field she does not have a problem with any dog that we are hunting with or that we run into. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
