Channel Cats

What water temp on the mississippi do you think is good to start chasing some channel cats. I got the itch real bad and i am going next weekend and wondering if it worth while to bring some catfishing stuff along other wise i am just going to bring my walleye fishing stuff. If it is a good time where do you suggest that i fish for them, deep holes or by wing dams or any other locations that might hold some fish. I here some people are catching them while they are fishing for walleyes so i would think if you fish for them you might catch one or two. Any info would be great thanks.

I caught 20 channels last week out of the Wabash river here in Indiana using nightcrawlers. 17 or so were 2-3 lbs. Here is an example of what we were catching.

what is the water temp down there. I live in minnesota and the water temp is probably about 38 degrees.

You can start catching them now, if you can find them. This is about the time of year I start targeting them. They should be a little more schooled up now, so if you find one, you've found a bunch. I'd look for deeper slack water.

we fished basscamp yesterday for a couple hours and caught a 26.53# flathead. My friends were down there also and caught a 46" flathead. last year we caught many cats while fishing for walleyes from spring to fall. good luck
