NMEA 2000 and Yamaha

MEGASLAM

Question

Just picked up a new lowrance lcx27c and am learning about nmea 2000. I have way too much time to read the manuals until the boat comes out of storage.

I think I can connect my F200 Yamaha up to a NMEA 2000 network but am not totally sure. My F200 was made in 2003 and I read in one place that the NMEA 2000 wasn't in yamaha until after 2004. Anybody know for sure?

Also, I'm assuming if I pop the cover off the motor it will be pretty obvious were the interface cable plugs in.

Looking for any and all tips on setting this up. I did a search on FM but doesn't look like its been discussed much.

The Lowrance part number for the Yamaha interface is #120-37, but it doesn't say what year of engines it is compatible with. By interfacing with the engine you can monitor many different readings that the engine computer is looking at such as engine RPM, fuel consumption, engine temperature, etc.

I don't know about your year motor but I agree that it should be pretty easy to see if there's an interface cable under the motor hood.

I have an Opti that comes with the SmartCraft monitor, which tells you many of those motor readings. If not for the Smartcraft gauges I probably would have done the NMEA connection to my motor.
