setting up Outlook express

Question

I am trying to set up my Outlook express on my computer and use Yahoo mail. Does anyone know the server name for yahoo for the incoming mail and the smtp outgoing mail server for Yahoo so I can type that info. on the internet connection wizard? I am also assuming Yahoo is a POP3 server.

If its regular free yahoo, it is not pop, it is http mail only, but if you paid for yahoo plus... the info is:

* Incoming mail server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com

* Outgoing mail server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

*If you are using the free version, you can download a program called YPOP to make it work with outlook.

Using the free version. Is the download on their home page? ok, I found the download. That went well, however, Outlook can't read yahoo mail account. Getting error regarding POP, which you said it is not. Do I need to change something to http? I was hoping the autosync would have taken care of this.

Using YPOP?

follow these for that program...this is with Outlook Express 6;

1. Select "Accounts..." from the "Tools" menu.

2. Click "Add" button and select "Mail...".

3. Enter your name and click "Next".

4. Enter your email address and click "Next".

5. Set "My incoming mail server is a" to POP3

6. Set "Incoming (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) mail server" to "127.0.0.1".

7. Set "Outgoing (SMTP) mail server" to "127.0.0.1" and click "Next". (Verify that SMTP is enabled in YPOPs.)

8. Set "Account name:" to your Yahoo! login.

9. Set "Password:" to you Yahoo! password and hit "Next".

10. Hit "Finish".

11. Click on new account named "127.0.0.1" and hit "Properties".

12. Rename account to "YPOPs" or something nice.

13. Select "Servers" tab.

14. Check "My server requires authentication".

15. Select "Advanced" tab.

16. Change "Server Timeouts" to Long - 5 minutes.

17. You may wish to select "Leave a copy of messages on server". This way the messages will not be deleted from Yahoo! when you download them.

18. You may wish to select "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'". This way when you delete a message in OE and empty the trash it's deleted from Yahoo! as well.

This is the error report I am getting. Is the YPOP download you are referring to the autosync? That is what I loaded.

The server responded with an error. Account: 'mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

***Cause:

Either the Outlook Express POP3 client is not able to access the mailbox because it does not exist or there is a custom recipient in the Exchange Server organization that has the same alias as you do, and Exchange Server is attempting to access the custom recipient before accessing your mailbox.

***Workaround:

In Outlook Express, try using Clear Text, which is the Log on using option under the Servers tab of the mail account.

To do so:

1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. This will bring up several tabs.

2. If you select any listed mail account, the properties will have a Servers tab with the Log on using option.

3. Select the Clear Text option.

If this works, then you were trying to access a non-existent mailbox or the wrong mailbox. If this does not work, then the administrator needs to check for and remove the custom recipient.
