Adam Wolf
Anyone ever fish with an Alvey fishing reel? I do a lot of shore fishing and want to get some more distance in my casts. They claim to make the longest casting reels in the world, they are large spools that flip forward to cast and sideways to reel in. Anyway I am curious if you can work a jig the same way as with a spin cast or still throw a crankbait and work it the same since they have 1:1 ratios. They make mostly surf casting saltwater stuff but they have a freshwater reel that is a lot cheaper. Thanks if anyone can help. MinnesotaMongo
I've heard of those reels but if you really want to cast far - try a European Match Rod. I bought one many years ago from Cabelas - but I'm not sure if they still make them. I think it's about 10 feet long - parabolic action - and casts a MILE with a normal reel. I'm talking about casting a 1/4 oz Jig across the cul-de-sac- down the street and accidentally smacking the distant neighbor's garage door distance. I've used it quite a bit for panfishing and other things from shore. It's fun.
