letsfishjeff
Headin up the 23rd for the weekend any ideas on the mouth of the Brule? Fun spot with the kids but never fished it.
jeweaver
Best times for the mouth are sunrise and sunset, unless its overcast. There's a pretty good delta out there and with chest waders you can get out quite a ways. Throw little cleos or bigger rapalas. Can also move down the shore a little bit to get away from the delta and throw out a crawler on a lindy rig and let it sit. I like to use either a floating jig head or blow some air into the tail of the worm. Browns should be patrolling the shoreline with a few other species thrown in. Fished in the river itself at that time of the year. Got a few walleyes, but mostly small perch.
letsfishjeff
So you fish the shoreline of the lake with more luck than in the river it self? Thanks for the reply. I have a little jon boat I was going to take in the river but the lake or even the Delta is to much for it. Last year all I did was dive in the river "got a pail full of spoons an spinners" Maybe I should bring a few more tanks!
great fishing 4-U
jeweaver is right this time of the year walking out into the lake is your best bet for trout. The best fishing is still maybe 6 weeks away for fishing the river (steelhead & browns). however last year at this time I caught a lot of walleye at the river mouth. Not sure why.------------------great fishing to all
jeweaver
In the river itself at the mouth is probably ok early or late in the day or maybe in the dark (although I don't know if there are sunrise to sunset rules imposed on the river itself). Just from casting spoons in there myself during the day (from shore) it didn't appear to be all that deep. I would think, that if legal, a guy could throw globs of crawlers out on the bottom after dark and wait.
jeweaver
letsfishjeff, so what's the report on the mouth of the Brule? I fished up in the river all day Friday and only managed a couple of small walleyes, suckers, and some very small trout. Fished Harvey's, McNeils, FF, and the Sucker hole area with spinners and crawlers.
letsfishjeff
Not a good time of the year I guess????? Still had a great time! My kids had a ball playing in the lake! It was a lot warmer than the river! No fish an didnt see any caught. I will have to try again in a few weeks.
