Welcome to FM, good to have you on the site, you will find alot of helpful people and info. I use 34-42" rods in Med hvy - hvy action. I have some Polar Tech rods that are good. If you can get rods in that length and action you will have a good set up. I picked up a new rod this year at Gander Mountain, it is a Gary Roach walleye rod in hvy action(42") for about $30. It is an excellent rod for fishing lakers. I also use 20# Fireline and a swivel with a mono leader so you get a bit of stretch on the hook set. Where are you headed for your first Canadian laker trip?

Well, then it will be good to meet you. Are you coming up with Jim? He has picked up the laker fishing pretty quick. He can help you get set up if that is who you coming up with. If you have any other questions, shoot me an email and I can get you all set up! Great to have heading up to see what we offer!

I am the owner and have known Jim for quite a few years now. Jim does know what he is talking about, but he might lie to you to reassure he will out fish you. That would not be out of the question. If you need any help with equipment, let me know. I mainly use 4" tubes in glow and white with 3/8 oz leads. The white tubes, Berkley power baits are good. The glow tubes, I get them from Venom Lures. They are white with blue flakes and glow green. Just search Venom Lures and you will find them. Otherwise we have them available at our main base before you depart for Pipestone. I am sure Jim has lots of them too, but he might not share. If you want to get him back, just take a bottle of whisky to celebrate the big fish and you will punish him. The fresh Canadian air seems to get the best of him if you just add a little to drink. I look forward to meeting you.

Hey now, lets play nice here, ha ha. I would never give out false information to ensure that I outfish the next guy. I prefer to rely on my superior skill, which is no problem when I'm fishing with bisekb. Speaking of which, I have all the tubes and hooks we will need for the trip. Superbee, Venom Lures has a deal now.....10% off and free shipping. I ordered a 50 pack and it was a good deal just in case you need to stock up. Bisekb....we'll get everything figured out for you Friday while catching some crappies. Should be a good time.

My favorite laker rod now is a 42" Professional Plus from Thorne Brothers. The extra length seems to help when fighting them, and plenty of back bone for the big ones. Being fiberglass, it should also stand up to the abuse of those remote Canada trips. I tried out 15 lb Pline a few weeks ago up there, and that seemed to work better for me than the braided lines. It did not freeze to the spool, and was easy to clear from the line.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
