fishhuntwork
I recently installed a used transmission in my 1999 chevy silverado, wondering if anyone knows how to properly adjust the range sensor? It gear lever doesn't seem to go into the drive position properly.
Jeremy airjer W
If it starts in nuetral and park than its not the switch its the cable. The cable is not easy to adjust! It takes me a couple of read throughs and some expeirementing to figure it out. I have the directions printed off and I can post them when I get home or if Some body else has them I'm sure they will post them.
Jeremy airjer W
Heres the direction for the shift cable adjustment1. Ensure shift cable is not restricted. Set transmission range selector lever to Park. Apply parking brake. Raise and support vehicle. At transmission, set transmission range select lever to Park by rotating range select lever clockwise until it reaches full mechanical stop position. 2. Slide black retaining clip forward on range select lever cable end to allow white lock button to be pushed out. Push white lock button out enough to free metal core adjust body inside cable end. DO NOT push white lock button completely out. Ensure cable end is free from debris. Lower vehicle.3. Ensure parking brake is applied. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Move transmission shift lever through all ranges 10 times. Move transmission shift lever to Park. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Raise and support vehicle. 4. At transmission, set transmission range select lever to Park by rotating range select lever clockwise until it reaches full mechanical stop position. Push in white button to secure core adjuster body inside range select lever cable end. Slide black retainer clip rearward over cable end until it covers white lock button. Lock clip over cable end. Lower vehicle. 5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Ensure all transmission shift light positions engage and illuminate. If not all transmission shift light positions engage and illuminate, repeat procedure. Ensure engine starts only in Park and Neutral. 6. If engine does not start in PARK or NEUTRAL positions, adjust Park Neutral Position (pNP) switch. See PARK NEUTRAL POSITION (PNP) SWITCH. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure ignition key can only be removed in PARK position. start engine and ensure transmission engagements are same as shift light positions.
