Chewing at bedding

I have an issue with my dog chewing at his bedding in his kennel. He's shredded several cheaper dog beds. I got rid of those and left him with blankets (which he shreds, but no big deal). He's a big dog, so I wanted more cushion in there, so I ordered an expensive pad with heavy duty PVC coated fabric cover. He left it alone for a while, but he started chewing on the corner the other day. Now, a Costco bed is one thing, but a $120 mat is not something I'm going to replace all that often.

He gets a walk in the moring and when I get home from work. He's got a Kong and two Nylabones in there to play with. We get to the dog park several times a week. He has no problem going into the kennel--it's not like he hates being in there.

This morning I tried smearing Tobasco on the corners. Hopefully, that works, but I was just wondering if anyone else has any other helpful ideas.

Tabasco or Bitter Apple may work. The other thing to do is to pull the bedding out for a month or two when he destroys this one. Then after a couple months give him some bedding back. That worked for my pup when I kept him inside.

I don't know if he put two and two together or if it was just by chance but he sure apprecitated the bedding after he slept on the floor for those couple months.
