Any tips for Big Round Lake in Polk Co.?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I'm going to a friend's cabin on Big Round this weekend (We both got kitchen passes! wink.gif
Anyway - since he ususlly fishes with his kids, and I've never fished the lake, I was wondering if anyone can help with some tips? I'm not looking for secret spots, just an advantage or 2 to help us get some fish in the boat. We will probably be fishing crappies and bass during the day, and targeting walleye in the mornings and evening. Maybe throw some bucktails or Suicks for awhile as well, seeing if we can get a fish, or at least a follow, from a muskie.

Thanks in advance!

Pharcta2,

During the summers the walleyes on BRL are not real light sensitive and generally bite during the day just as well as the evening or morning due to the stained water.

Work the rushes along the west side of the lake for crappies. (Throw back the females full of eggs)

Work midlake bar edge for bass, sunfish an walleyes. Jig and a leech or a slip bobber works well. Fan casting shad raps on the edges of the bars is also productive for both bass and walleyes.

Keep in mind that is a 15" minimum on walleyes and 14" minimum on bass.
