How to clean throttle bodies????

riverside

Recommended Posts

I have a 97 Arctic Cat zr 580 EFI that has been sitting in shed for 3 years and has not been started. Now that we have snow I think it is time to get it running. Tonight I put new plugs in and checked for spark, looked good. I also held hand over spark plug holes and I have compression. I removed the air box and found were mice made a nest. My next step is to remove old gas and clean the throttle bodies. I have never cleaned these before. Any advice would be great. After throttle bodies are clean is their anything else I should do or look at before starting the machine. Thanks for any advice

I would just remove the air box and use a can of throttle body cleaner and spray them out. They do not gum up all that much as I have found. Make sure mice stuff is not stuck in them.

I would lube any zerts on the front susp. and rear susp., check chain case lube and fill or change if needed. Check belt, lights (brake light) and you should be good to go.

I'd say Shack gave you good advice. About the only thing we've ever done with EFI's is run a half can of Injector cleaner through them on the first tank of the year. That and Seafoam in the last tank...
