finn-land
i was wondering if any one has any knowledge on these. i have a 04 chevy 2500HD with the 6.0 in it.i have read alot of good about them and herd some bad. how do they work in cold weather driving, say like today when it's -10? also do they help with gas mileage at all. i have also read that if you team the cold air intake with a throttle body spacer you could get 2-4 MPG increase, truth or not? that would be a pretty big increase over my current mileage. thanks for any info. deadeye
Im a fan of them. They do make a little more power on some trucks and can give you a little better mileage if you can keep your foot off the gas. The problem is a lot of times it makes the engine a little more noisy, and if your like me, like to hear it growl. That being said, I do have one and like it. I havent really seen much about the throttle body spacers. I guess that the speed shop near me did some dyno stuff with them and got a few extra hp. Im again thinking if you get one, if you are light on the gas it may help. I take off my cold air intake in the winter, partially because I dont want the cone filter to get messed up & coroded from the salt and partially because It only really helps when its warmer out. Im sure that you get a bit more power with the lack of restriction all year, but it really doesnt make that much of a difference in mpg during the winter. Hafnutz
I've read about throttle body spacers on several truck forums and they claim they are a waste of time and money. If it was that easy to gain 2-4 mpg you can bet the manufacturers would be building them into new vehicles. I doubt that you will see any gains. Scott K
That and the extra air that is going into the engine, if there wasnt a down side of that, dont you think the manufacturer would add that from the factory as well. If the filter is allowing extra air, then there is extra dirt as well! Just food for thought!
