Dash Lights - Honda Accord

Recommended Posts

2002 Honda Accord / V6 / 116,xxx

Here's the deal. My interior dash lights work off and on. All the needles, gauges etc work correctly. I get in turn the lights on and nothing on the dash. I have checked all fuses multiple times and none are blown. All other lights / instruments work correctly. Sometimes right as I pull into the garage, they turn on for no apparent reason. Sometimes while driving if I hit a bump in the road they will turn on as well. Is there some sort of internal circuit board behind the dash that could be cracked/broken? I have no idea how to even go about fixing it and I dont have $300 to bring it to a dealership to get it fixed right now. I thought maybe you guys might have another idea I could try. As of right now, 2 AA batteries are powering the "Mag-Lite Dash" lol. Thanks!

Are we talking about the illumination lights so you can read the gauges?

There is a dimmer for these that will turn down the intensity of the light. Find it and give it a wack and see if the lights come on. Otherwise I would bet the problem is in the headlamp switch, you could also try wiggling and jiggling this as well.

Yes this is the illumination lights. The dial is turned all the way up to full brightness. It's weird because like I said it wont work and sometimes it will just pop on as normal. I've wacked it numerous times and nothing. It's like it has a mind of it's own lol!

My old co-worker had this problem and found bad solder joints on the circuit board. He was a old school tv repairman so he resoldered them and it worked again. I dont know if that will help you or not but if none of the things airjer said works then maybe take a look at that part of it.

I can't remember if those Accords have a separate illumination brightness switch, but you should check that switch. I have seen some Honda's where the switch would fail and you get no lights in the dash at all.

It does have the knob you can turn for the brightness. This is all the way on high. It's so weird because I will be driving and all the sudden they just turn on to full glory like normal. I'm assuming there's some type of circuit board behind the dash that may be cracked/bad.
