Spent Sun Mon and Tues fishing between Baylield and Madeline Island in 140 ft the action was good, 6 trout in total 2 nice 28 inch red fins and 4 that were 18 to 20 inches, good eaters in all...Lots of really good hits that were missed and on the last day my friend had a monster to the hole that came off right when he got him to the leader i estasmated at least a 15 pounder when i looked down the hole way bigger then the 28 inchers. we were at th 9th tree on the road guys were getting fish around us two we used yellow and white bobbing beatles and white crippled herring the crippled herring had by far the most hits. we tip them with cut herring or smelt. go up and give it a try it was awsome. Was any one out there?

blackjack,
Now you got my blood pumping smile.gifsmile.gif I will be up in ashland fishing this weekend. Thanks for the report, i was planning on staying near ashland on the sled, but may have to head over to the road to give it a try now. Nice fish, whew, would like to tangle with that bigone he lost. The beetles will be packed for sure. Were the active fish you were seeing mostly suspended, or near the bottom? Weather looks nice for saturday, gonna have a good time no matter how the fish hit grin.gif

Hey guys... fished the ice road also with Northlander on Monday (130FOW) and today I fished out off Basswood, along the southend of the island (135FOW). Monday was slow for us, as we did have some fish interested and a few hits but nothing hooked... lots of pressure along the road these days but as blackjack was saying everyone is till getting fish... off Basswood I iced three fish.. the biggest being 32 inches today on a firetiger crippled herring and a white power tube.. the other two I caught on a chartreuse airplane jig with a glow twister tail and a small piece of herring cut bait.. was very warm.. 40+ degrees and its suppose to be like this for another two days... so the slush/water situation will be horrible...if you all come up this way.. give me a shout as I live in Bayfield...

Yeah blackjack... Craig at Outdoor Allure sells the firetiger color... in assorted sizes... I usually fish with a 2 or 3 ounce...rattlesnakie spoons also work well.. in the white with glow.. thank god the slush froze up a lil bit on the lake last night... my friend was out doing assessments with the commercial fisherman and said a lot of the bigger holes froze over again.... next week if the ice holds up I plan on heading out north of Red Cliff in a few spots that havent been fished to hard this year... all the reports I have heard from the past few days are good.. people are getting fish.. some more then others.. but thats the way fishing goes... I work days on fri-sat-sun so I cant fish then.. but Mon-Thursdays I can fish.... give me an e-mail if you want.. [email protected]...

Has any fished by the hermit island quarry i have always done well their but have not been able to get out that far this year if any ones hears a report from farther out let me know the ice could be getting shaky after this warm spell .Was any one else that fished the ice road yelled at for punching holes near the road we were 10-20 yards off the road but some guy stopped and told us to fill are holes so we don't flood the road out?i realize that, but hey were just fishing.. Just wondering

    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
    • I’ve only seen that from the air.
