Ice Auger Problems

Hey I just bought a Jiffy Ice Auger 3hp Model 30. Its about 8 yrs old and it cuts thru ice great and runs good, theres only one problem I have with it and was wondering if anyone knows how I can solve the problem. As soon as I start my auger, the blade begins to turn. The auger itself does not open up wide, however the auger blade still turns and is kinda dangerous for I am not able to carry from hole to hole, I have to shut her off and then re-start. Hoping someone has the answer to my problem thanks!

It needs a carb adjustment. A really simple fix. Only needs a few turns of a screw if you know what your doing.

I wouldnt be the person to explain it

Someone on here has a really good diagram on how to do it. Hopefully they will see it and post it up

Yep you should just need to adjust the carb. There should be a small screw on the bottom of the carb that you will need to turn out a turn or 2. Adjust this when the auger is running. When the blade stops turning you should be good to go.

You need to adjust the low idle speed screw. This screw does not interfere with the adjustment of the fuel and air on the high and low speed mixture screws.

On your model 30, the screw is located at the top of the carb, not down on the lower part of the carb where the two mixture screws are located.

If backing off the screw to the point that the engine will die out, and the auger still wants to turn, you will need new clutch spings on the auger engagement clutch.
