Heres my problem, I live on a 20 acre pond/lake ...9 ft max depth..lots of crappies and gills..lake is controlled for weeds...no sharp drop-offs shallow hump running down the middle of the lake..I cant find the crappies when the ice comes...where do they go ? I know where there are brush piles ...nothing...very frustrating.....any help ?

Hey Stag,

I ice fished a very similar sort of lake last winter. One thing I noticed is that the crappies constantly moved and really didn't seem to have any pattern to them at all. I had good action by drilling a whole bunch of holes and moving around and checking them with the sonar. Once I found them I'd catch a few and then they'd disappear. Then I'd basically repeat the whole process again. The whole key was moving constantly and utilizing sonar (Vexilar).

if the shore weeds are dead id try to find "deeper" weeds. if there are any transitions i would set up there and and just wait them out! put your time in on the ice and you will be suprised. bring the radio or something to do to pass the time if you are not catch anything. set your bobber at a "suspended" depth. i catch crappies on my bobber that i didn't even see on the vex!
