January Walleye Depth?

Striking out on the walleyes lately, was wondering in general what a good depth would be to search for them at this time of the year, no specific lakes, or spots just maybe some opinions on depth and structure you would seek out as you stare at the contour maps this time of the year. Most of the lakes I fish are lakes that tend to be 30-40 feet deep at there deepest and the deep holes are filled with lots of dinky crappies.

By this time of year you're getting into mid-winter patterns. In general the walleyes won't be as aggressive, they are more inactive and for longer periods of time, and have shorter feeding windows.

And by now you have lots of houses on the popular spots and lots of commotion on the ice, which I think pushes the fish off the popular structures except for when they head there to feed.

So ...... I'd concentrate on mid-lake structures and deeper structures - try to get fish moving along the edge of the structure or off the edge of it, or fish moving up on it to feed. Hole hopping and a lot of moving around can help because it increases your chances of finding fish that are ready to bite.

Also, on most lakes now your best bets will be right at daybreak and right at sunset, unless you're talking about a darker water lake like Red or LOTW that are loaded with fish that will bite all day long.
