waskawood
Finally bought a permanent house. My question is what line do you use on your rattle reels? I am looking for a line that won't cut your hands and something that won't tangle when you pull the line up and lay it on the floor. Has anyone used fly line and a leader? Thanks for any help.Dave
bucktailsam
waskawood,I have used rattle reels a few times and I have always used braided tipup line or musky line with a 4 ft mono leader(either 6 or 8 lb test). It doesnt tangle easily after you bring it in and it doesnt stretch much when you set the hook. I think that if you used fly line it would stretch to much and you might not get a solid hook set.Bucktailsam
hawkeye43
I use flyline for the last 20 years, it works very well. it does not stretch and is nice to hand over hand to bring fish up, if you tie about 3 ft of mono you can fight a fish with out the line getting cut on the ice. waskawood
Thanks for the replies. Hawkeye, do you use sinking fly line? What weight? Thanks again, guys.
f1sh1nfool
I've even tried plastic coated dacron on my reels, i had some left over after rigging tip ups. it is easier on the hands when fighting a big fish, and it doesn't tangle, but mostslip bobbers don't work well with it. psegriz
Flyline and a mono leader is the way to go. I don't think it matters on sinking or floating.------------------Goosin now but Ice is coming soon!!GRIZ
