1996 cavalier 2.2 liter

replaced head gasket about 5000 miles ago, now im getting coolant up through 1 head bolt, was i supposed to put some type of sealant on bolts?

All the install insrtuction say is to clean head bolts. Nothing about using a sealer. When you torqued them down did you do the three steps? Bolts A 46 lb-ft, Bolts B 43 lb-ft, and then all an additional 90 degrees.

i put new head bolts in, i dont remember if i did the 90 degrees thing. any of the bolts go into the water jacket? retorque? i really dont want to pull all apart again.

If you dont remember the 90 degree torque, then you probably missed that step. Yes it is time to retorque the head bolts!

You would remember because it is a pain! Torque to yield is becoming very popular and requires a torque angle tool for accuracy.
