hey thanks fellas... I did end up finding the fault under the dash by trial and error.

I also decided I was being a bit too cheap, and coughed up the scratch for a Haynes manual.

I figured it was either the manual or a subscription to AlldataDIY, in the end i thought that the book would deal with greasy fingers better than the keyboard would
