Quick Trailer Repair Question

eyepatrol

Question

I need to replace the hub assembly on one side of my trailer. Hopefully I can get all the parts from NAPA.

My question is this though....is it any different to replace the hub assembly on a trailer with surge breaks as it is on a trailer without surge breaks? Does it matter if the trailer has breaks or not?

Thanks!

The hub assembly for disc or drum surge brakes is actually the entire drum or rotor. Not the same as a regular trailer with no brakes. The install is the same though, if that is what you are asking.

Why do you need to replace the whole assembly? You could just follow the bearing packing instructions that are stickied above, unless the hub is damaged. I carry a whole assembly in my boat, no brakes on trailer, for a quick roadside repair if need be.

The whole assembly is shot and I'll have to replace the axle as well. One side burnt up pretty bad when I got home from Canada (luckily I made it home).

That's what I was wondering though....if the install was the same.

Thanks!
