Finally went fishing

Recommended Posts

Got out on the water this afternoon, first time since winter. Gosh did it feel good. The lake I fished I had pretty good luck with the walleyes last year, none today only 3 northerns. Nothing to brag about but I kept one for dinner. Bugs are awful...........and I broke one of my favorite rods cry I broke one last fall, this is a bad omen.

Hey, you're on the open water board now Barb! Chalk up 3!! I sometimes get pretty bummed out that the boat is up north and we can't go out midweek. You do truly live in God's Country. cool Don't feel too bad about the rod. I busted my St. Croix one last year too. I think that sometimes I leave too much tension on the rod when I wrap it up at the end of the fishing day and maybe that's what makes them more apt to snap. That's my thoughts anyway.

Sounds like a bummer of a first day out. I've been out quite a bit the past week or so and so have totally lost track of the postings here. I don't think I'll get much flack if I say I'd rather be fishing smile Caught my first turtle - that was a worth a lot of laughs from my fellow fishing friends cuz I was sure it was a whopper. I'll try to post the pics sometime.

We've been doing great with the crappies including a 13" but most around 11". We've been getting out at the butt-crack of dawn and usually pick up around 30 or more between the two of us. One moring we pulled in a fish at least every five seconds for close to an hour. Picked up 10 northerns between two of us on Saturday, nothing of great size but alot of fun to reel in. I also hooked into a 3# walleye. Lots of fun, lots of fish back in the lake to catch another day.

My girlfriend's hubby was razzing us about the cost of our sport complaining that we spend way too much on bait and tackle. We figured that our crappie minnows cost us about 10 cents a piece and we go through a few dozen a weekend (fat heads and shiners a bit more), along with leeches and tackle and gas - comes up to almost the same as the cost of beer and crown the guys go through in a weekend smile

Nice to check in on everyone again. Happy fishing!

I have been fishing from a dock on my lake, with a neighbor guy. Catching sunnies, northerns, and a lunch size bass the other day. I might take the boat over to my honeyhole lake tomorrow or the next day. In the mean time the dock fishing has been so much fun. Fixed the old grouch some sunnies for dinner the other night and he scarfed them down.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
