Motor will not trip up!

Booth

Question

I have an '86 Merc. 25hp. If I put it in gear I should be able to flip the motor up correct? It use to work this way but after a winter of storage, no go. How do I fix this guys.

I can manually find the little lever and push or pull it and the motor will swing up. But in the past all I would do is put it in gear and grab the motor, boom, done.

Thanks,

Paul

You should be able to lock it into the "free" position. If you push the lever down to release the motor there should be a way to make it stay in that down position. You will have to look around at the motor and find how to do that. Have a good one././Jimbo

There are a few moving parts down there. If you say it worked fine before, then I would guess that it is dry and probably needs a little grease. Locate the acuator down between the transom brackets. Shift into FWD and watch at the same time. See what parts are trying to move. Sounds like they just need to be greased. Use a marine type grease.
