Even with ice still on lakes MN isn't so bad!!

Hi all -

I have a non-muskie story but I hope its okay to post. I've been in Texas for work for about a month so while you're waiting on lakes to open I've been enjoying the warm weather down here. I decided to get a travel pack spinning rod and got to one of the local ponds to fish for bass and crappie yesterday. I was enjoying the sun catching an occasional fish until it all changed. About 2-3 feet from me a pretty good sized water mocassin jumped off the bank and into the water. I'm sure I sacred it as much as it scared me, but I'd rather share a bathroom stall with a grizzly than share the Excel Center with a snake. I simultaneously jumped, screamed, and ran like a little girl. About 50 feet away I realized that my phone had fallen out of my packet and I had to goback for it. I knew that snake was gone, but I had been standing next to it for quite some time without ever knowing it was there so I was pretty nervous about there being more. I know I probably made it a bit more dramatic than necessary but I'm a bit out of my element down here - can't wait to get back and fish crappies this weekend.

Those are probably as close to big esox as you can get down there.

Yeah, you have to watch where you are down south. I have fished quite a few ponds and rivers down there and you find some stuff down on the bank you wouldn't think existed. We were fishing in a boat one time with a buddy of my dad's, and all of a sudden out of a tree a freakin wolf spider fell into the boat about 6" from my foot. I was just a little kid, but you want to hear a kid scream, give them that treatment. That spider was about as big as my foot and I didn't want anything to do with it. We had a picture of that thing somewhere, but I can't find it anymore.
