'94 Polaris 300 4x4

Well I took the machine out to plow the latest round and it quit running. I took a look in the tank and was surprised to see that it was empty. Poured a couple gallons in and tried to start it and no go. Towed it into the garage and that is when I noticed that there was a considerable amount of gas running on the ground.

I tore into it and found that the gas was coming from a vent like tube that comes out of the carb. There are actually two tubes, one comes from the top and one comes from the bottom of the carb. They go into a T and the remaining line goes into a check valve looking device and then the line coming out of that is where the gas is coming out. I'm assuming that this should be connected somewhere, but I just can't see where. This is the small vent/overflow type line not the main fuel supply.

As always any help is appreciated. I will post this on the ATV forum also. I sure should get myself a manual but they sure are pricey.

Big Al, have the same problem with my '94 yamaha 400. Pretty sure it's the needle in the carb. Lets gas keep going in the carb and running out the overflow valve. I have a carb kit on order for this.

Float is stuck. Lightly rap on the bowl of the carb. If you can easily get the carb out, shake it. The float should rattle around. If you get no sound, tear it apart and rebuild it. Tune into the game, open a few 'beverages', and remember what came from where!!!!

The check valve on the end of the line isn't supposed to be hooked up to anything. It just keeps things from being sucked in to the wrong end of the carb.

Thanks for the help folks. I pulled it loose (did not disconnect choke and throttle) turned enough to pull the plug on the bottom and drained it out. I turned it upside down and tapped with a screw driver. Must have done the trick, it does not appear to be leaking.

Congrats!! You have figured out the biggest trick in the books for small engine carbs! If you can get to the 4 screws on the bottom of the carb, you can fix almost any problem with those carbs. A basic 'rebuild kit' comes with the main jet/seat and some gaskets. Be careful with today's fuel...They break down FAST and really mess up carbs! Do not be afraid of fuel stabilizers!!!
