Fishing in the Bahama's

I've got a friend who is going to be in the Bahama's in a couple weeks and wants to do a little fishing while he is down there. He's tried calling the tourist people down there, but they've just been sending him in circles, so I offered to post his questions on here. First off, are there any kinds of licenses needed to fish the ocean (mostly from shore I think)? Also, is it legal to use a cast net catch baitfish? Any help would be useful. Thanks

First, which island?

Second, consider doing a search for your topic. There has been some good information already posted about deep sea fishing, near shore fishing, and fly-fishing for bonefish in the Bahamas.

I probably should have realized knowing the island would be important. He will be staying on San Salvador. I did a search and did find a handful of good posts with fishing stories and what to bring, but didn't find anything on laws.

Well, my experience was that there wasn't any licenses to speak of. He might want to check with guides or resorts. Sounds like he'll be in the middle of some pretty good fishing if he can find someone to take him out.
