Runners for fish house?

Current house size 8x16, runners worn down to 4" high(oak), adding 4' to house to improve sleeping arangements. Oak runners are really old and held up great over the 20 some yrs. Asked a welder up at lake what he would charge for the "steel" cage and runner set up I've been seeing over yrs. $1200.00 for 8x20-ouch! Think I'll stick with wood.Can anyone suggest a fairly priced lumber mill guy? Anyone have a better idea?

my buddie just put some on his house this fall i will ask him where he got his.he lives up there in williams.i know they r spendy also.

that would be great. I'm going to check by my lake place in northern aitkin county also. I know they aren't cheap, but they sure aren't going to be $600 a piece.

he said he paid $80 a piece for 20 fters.got them from a guy who makes them for resorts.but he forgot the name.if he figures out who and where i'll let ya know.cause im thinkin about getting a set for myself.

Check with Brad at McQuoids Inn. I talked to a guy last year who said that he paid around 600 to have them put on.

Ah ya,thanks but no thanks- just moved from Angler's Paradise(Dickie's Portside) to Fisherman's Wharf. Was not happy with new ownership(McQoides/Brad), Dickie and Marge spoiled me. I won't touch Brad at Mcqoid's with a 10 ft fishin pole.

Wow, never had a problem with Brad. Dale on the other hand seemed to be a little shady. Maybe that's why he was let go last week. Sorry i couldn't help.

Ya I think you're right, it was Dale that was a joke. All I know is it was nearly impossible to get any action or answers with the new ownership there. No one was ever in the office(Angler's), I didn't even get my road passes last year, and didn't need them either(no one there-never was checked on ice). They stored my house in a different dead storage lot than were it had always been, and drug it down the road to get it there. Which is why i need new runners! There were a # of other problems I won't get into, I guess I don't want to and shouldn't trash McQuoid's or Brad. But after 2yrs with the new ownership I left, it just wasn't the service I was used to. Hope they can improve things.

I have an antique bobsled that may have thet answer for you. It has wooden runners but there is a round steel rod down the middle.

Could you take a piece of round stock and weld bolts to it. Bend it up at both ends of the piece of wood and then run the bolts up and use them to secure the rod and wood to the frame of the fish house. If the wood was wide enough maybe put two pieces on each runner. That would seem to take a lot of the beating and maybe even make the house easier to move. That bobsled can go like a mad hare if the base is icy enough.
