Menomonie Area Ice recommendations

I'll be spending a week or so in Menomonie and will have evenings free for fishing. I'm looking for lake recommendations within 1/2 hour of Menomonie, preferrably with walk-on access and some action.

Go to the 'Cut Off' north of Tainter....just make sure you access the DNR land and don't trespass. Otherwise try Altoona, its hit and miss but nice fish - mostly crappies and perch with bonus gills. Tough time of year, things slowin down.
